Tips for renting dehumidifiers and industrial air dryers

How to choose the right dehumidifier and what to look for – application, operation, efficiency, model selection

Industrial dehumidifiers are an excellent solution for businesses or individuals who struggle with excess moisture and need climate control. They are widely used in factories, offices, construction sites, warehouses, during restorations, in gyms, swimming pools, after floods.

Moisture can cause damage, unpleasant odors and other problems that adversely affect the work process.

We know that the choice of dehumidifier is wide and often not easy, so we share with you the most important things that are worth knowing when you need to rent dehumidifiers. In the following lines, you will learn more about the possibilities, advantages and exactly how they work.

Description:

Industrial dehumidifiers generally have a greater capacity to remove moisture than household dehumidifiers. They have steel or strong molded plastic outer walls and linings, which makes them much more suitable for a long service life and resistant to possible collisions (most often on construction sites).

Application:

On construction sites their general application is for quick drying of newly built masonry and plaster. Whether owned by construction companies or rented, professional dehumidifiers ensure durability when moving from one site to another.

In factories  dehumidifiers are used in production processes, they help dry products, store dry materials and prevent moisture in buildings.

Long-term storage of archives, artifacts, manuscripts and books always depends on strict control of humidity and temperature, as excess humidity can cause irreversible damage.

Condensation and moisture are also the main cause of corrosion in metals and chains and for this reason dehumidifiers find many applications minimizing rust damage.

Of course, the main role of the dehumidifier is to reduce the humidity in the rooms or other type of air space, that is why many of our customers rent dehumidifiers from Stroyrent to quickly eliminate moisture at home.

How do dehumidifiers work?

Compressor dehumidifiers work by passing moist ambient air over a cold metal surface. It is an array of thin metal fins through which tubes carrying an evaporating refrigerant pass, which in turn makes the fins cold. Condensation drawn from the air drains from the fins into a collection tank or drains to a suitable drainage. The process is continuous as the fan keeps the air moving over the coils while the refrigerant gas is in closed loop and the compressor turns the gas back into a pressurized liquid phase before returning to the coil to vaporize and cool.

Why is their performance affected by ambient humidity and temperature?

The effectiveness of different dehumidifiers depends mainly on the ambient humidity and temperature. Condensation on the cooling surface is enhanced when there is a greater temperature inversion at the surface (ie, a greater difference between the temperature of the air and that of the surface). The higher the ambient temperature and relative humidity, the more water the device will extract. Ideal conditions in which the machine has the greatest performance are approximate values of 80% air humidity and 30oC in a given room.

Dehumidifiers have a number of benchmarks, the most important of which is the rate of water extraction. This is a value that is usually expressed in liters per day at the ideal values of relative humidity and temperature already mentioned. Expected values for the smaller models are up to 10 litres/day at 30 °C and 80% relative humidity, while the average larger models are in the 20 – 40 liters/day. The indicated figures may vary, depending on the conditions of use and how well it matches the so-called “ideal conditions“.

Choosing an industrial dehumidifier

Once you know roughly how much removal capacity you need, consider the following factors:

Voltage.   Most industrial dehumidifiers operate on a 230 V power supply, but due to their frequent use on construction sites, some models are available with a 110 V   or dual voltage supply (230 V and 110 V). If you plan to rent a dehumidifier for a construction site, the latter option would undoubtedly be the most flexible.

Drainage.  Unless you can easily connect your dehumidifier to a gravity drain, then tank size matters a lot. The water in the smaller tanks needs to be poured out more frequently, as a full tank will shut the dryer off. In such a situation, the equipment stays switched off for a longer time, which makes the investment unprofitable.

Rent a dehumidifiers
